Your busy life can become flooded with responsibilities and constant activity. You have goals to meet and chores to accomplish at home. What is Self-Care?

Everyone practices some type of self-care even if it means simple decisions like food choices and brushing your teeth.

  • Reduce anxiety and depression: There are various routines you can implement that will greatly benefit your levels of depression and anxiety. Simply having a balanced diet will allow you to manage your emotions better. As well as regular exercise is a great way to decrease symptoms that cause anxiety and depression.  
  • Eliminate stress: There are many stressors that can be eliminated by taking a break from the news. Being social and being able to talk about your concerns with someone can often relieve a great deal of stress. Yoga and meditation work great to help your body relax. 
  • Increase happiness and minimize anger: Writing or starting a gratitude journal will allow you to reflect and express your feelings. A massage or acupuncture can be a nice way to cleanse the body and mind. Spending time in nature allows you to develop a connection to something greater than yourself. Nature carries a healing power that is able to restore your body and mind. 
  • Sleep better: When it comes to the professional working world we tend to see people glorifying the hustle. Individuals working long hours and sleeping very little each night. It is recommended that adults sleep at least 6-8 hours each night. It is key to make sleep a priority in your life and follow a consistent schedule. Perhaps you have difficulty falling asleep at night. If so, avoid consuming caffeine late in the day. Getting a few minutes of sunshine and exercise each day allows your body to enter a deeper sleep. Avoiding screen time late and bright lights 30 minutes before bedtime allows the body to prepare for sleep.
